Growing up I was extremely shy and completely lacking in self confidence. I always believed that I wasn’t good enough, or that I wasn’t capable of doing what I wanted to do.
When I was 19 I came across an ad for a Clubbercise class near me. I was intrigued to see that it had glow sticks, disco lights and club anthems but most importantly it was taught in a darkened room where no one could see what I was doing. I thought “I’M IN!”
I was nervous about going to a class where I knew nobody but a week later I turned up, on my own, and stood as close to the back as possible. Before I knew it, I felt totally at ease.
I’d finally found a class that I absolutely loved and it felt like nobody was judging me or watching what I was doing.
I went home after that class on such a high, and straight away booked to go back the week after. As the weeks went by I made my way closer and closer to the front of the class. My confidence started to grow and I enjoyed it more and more each time.
One week, after class, my instructor suggested that I look into doing the Clubbercise instructor training. At first laughed it off... me, do the training course, absolutely not! But the more I thought about doing it, the more I fell in love with the idea.
I booked onto the Clubbercise instructor training just four months after starting my first class, super nervous and not knowing what to expect, and I found something I loved to do.
Inspired to do more, I also booked onto the ‘Kids Combo’ training so I could teach Clubbercise to children and families.
For me, it just felt like the more courses I took part in, the more my love for Clubbercise and fitness in general grew. Within 18 months, I qualified in Level 2 Exercise to Music, Level 2 Gym Instructor and Level 3 Personal Training.
I went from being shy and quiet and too scared to get up in front of a class, to teaching ten fitness classes a week, working in a gym full time and running my own personal training business.
If anyone had asked me four years ago what I would be doing now, I would definitely not have believed that I would be where I am now.
Attending my first Clubbercise class four years ago has completely changed my life, both mentally and physically.
I’ve also met other amazing instructors along the way who are a great support network.
If you have a dream, go for it! Don’t give up and remember that absolutely anything is possible.
